Research centers

Numerous projects have already been realized at the Department in partnership with donors and partner institutions. These include five research centers dedicated to crucial topics, including child development, trade and globalization, health, and poverty alleviation. These centers not only have their own specific research agenda, they also include new professorships, enabling concentrated research on specific topics by proven experts.

Center for Child Well-being and Development

The Center for Child Well-being and Development is a research center at the Department of Economics of the University of Zurich. It was founded with the aim to significantly improve the situation of children in developing countries through new scientific findings. The main objective of the center is to provide high-quality research in the field of development economics in order to educate policy-makers and multilateral organizations on concrete measures and programs that improve child well-being and development.

The Kühne Center for Sustainable Trade and Logistics is based on a long-term collaboration between the Kühne Foundation and the University of Zurich. The aim of the research center is to provide objective, reliable, and balanced information on the effects and impacts of globalization and to provide new answers to the challenges facing world trade today.

The LRF Center for Economics of Breastfeeding is a research center at the University of Zurich. The center conducts high-quality research in the economics of child and adolescent development with a focus on breastfeeding. The main objective of the research is to assist policy-makers and public health organizations in designing policies and programs to improve child and adolescent development.

Mariann Steegmann Center for Gender Economics

Thanks to the support of the BAREVA Foundation, a new Center for Gender Economics is being established at the University of Zurich, as well as an endowed professorship, which forms the core of the Center. This initiative will enable targeted scientific research into the causes, consequences, and elimination of gender inequality and the influence of gender on economic, social, and political factors.

Zurich Center for Economic Development

The Zurich Center for Economic Development is part of the Department of Economics at the University of Zurich. This research center promotes synergistic collaboration between researchers, business partners, government organizations, and NPOs – both in highly developed and developing countries – with the aim of creating economic policies that reduce poverty and support wealth creation.
